Navodaya College of Nursing, Raichur, successfully conducted a regional workshop titled “BCLS Comprehensive Skill Training for Nursing Students & Nurses" on June 22, 2024. This workshop, which provided KSNC-approved credit hours, aimed to equip nursing students and professionals with crucial Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of rapid and effective responses during cardiac emergencies.

A total of 250 delegates from the Kalyana Karnataka region attended the workshop, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing their emergency care skills. The event began at 8:30 AM with a registration session coordinated by Prof. Danana Gowda H.Y. of NCON, followed by a pre-test and ice-breaking session led by Prof. Immanuel P. This session set an interactive tone for the day, encouraging participant engagement.

At 9:30 AM, Mr. Ganesh, a Nursing Officer and BCLS Trainer from ESICMCH & PGIMSR, Kalaburgi, delivered an informative lecture on the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, including normal ECG readings.

The workshop was officially inaugurated at 10:00 AM by Shri S.R. Reddy, Honorable Chairman of Navodaya Education Trust, Raichur. Guests of honor included Dr. Devanand, Dean and Principal of Navodaya Medical College; Dr. Arun K.N., Medical Superintendent; and special invitees Dr. Mallikarjun Reddy, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Ramesh Babu, Director of the NK Bhat Center for Simulation and Clinical Research, Navodaya Medical College Hospitals. Their presence highlighted the significance of the workshop.

Following a brief coffee break, Dr. Ramesh Babu, Director of the Dr. N.K. Bhat Centre for Simulation & Research at NMCH&RC, provided a comprehensive overview of BCLS, discussing indications, contraindications, and cardiac arrest management. Mr. Vadiraj Udapi, Nursing Officer at RIMS, Raichur, and BCLS Trainer & Provider (AHA), then delivered an impactful session on Adult BCLS with AED, showcasing essential life-saving techniques.

A key highlight of the morning was the BCLS enactment session conducted by Mr. K.N. ShreeKrishna, Assistant Professor / ANS, and BCLS Trainer & Provider at NCON. This session offered practical insights and reinforced theoretical knowledge through hands-on application. The participants then took a lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.

The afternoon sessions began with a detailed BCLS demonstration by the skill trainers of Navodaya College of Nursing. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, participants engaged in return demonstrations, practicing BCLS techniques under expert guidance to enhance their practical skills.

At 5:00 PM, Prof. PaIlat A. conducted a post-test to assess the knowledge acquired by participants throughout the workshop. This was followed by a feedback session led by Prof. Rakhi Sarkar and Mrs. Tabitha, Associate Professor at NCON, gathering valuable participant insights and suggestions.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory ceremony during which delegates received certificates recognizing their participation and the KSNC credit hours earned, totalling 08 credit hours. The event was observed and overseen by Prof. Rachoti, the KSNC-appointed observer, ensuring the highest standards of training and evaluation were maintained.

This regional workshop on BCLS Comprehensive Skill Training marked a significant step in enhancing the emergency response capabilities of nursing students and professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared to save lives in critical situations.
