NAVODAYA COLLEGE OF NURSING, RAICHUR
WORLD LEPROSY DAY CELEBRATED
Date: 30 January 2026:
Navodaya College of Nursing observed World Leprosy Day at Sathyanath Colony with the aim of raising awareness about leprosy and reducing stigma associated with the disease. This year’s theme, “Leprosy is curable, the real challenge is stigma,” highlights the ongoing need to address social barriers even as the disease remains treatable. The programme was organised by Dept. of Community health nursing to educate the community on the early detection, treatment and prevention of leprosy. Prof. Rakhee Sarkar served as the resource person and delivered an informative talk on the causes, signs and symptoms of leprosy, as well as the availability of effective treatment and the importance of seeking timely medical care. She emphasised that leprosy is completely curable with early intervention and encouraged individuals to come forward for treatment.
Students from Navodaya College of Nursing actively participated in the awareness initiative, interacting with community members and sharing educational messages to promote understanding and compassion towards persons affected by leprosy. In addition to awareness activities, students presented engaging events such as musical chairs, games, a skit and dance performances, which added enthusiasm and drew strong community involvement, making the programme lively and memorable. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Pailat A., who expressed gratitude to the resource person, community members and students for their cooperation and active participation. The World Leprosy Day programme was meaningful in spreading awareness, reducing fear and promoting social acceptance within the community.
